Remembering
the Nakba
As Israel and many throughout the world celebrate the Birth of
Israel, we believe it is important to reflect upon the
circumstances under which Israel became a nation. We must
remember the 700,000 Palestinians who lost their homes, and the
thousands who lost their lives, as Zionists expelled much of the
indigenous population of Palestine to create a state of Jewish
exclusivity. Visit our Remembering the Nakba page
for links to many educational resources. |

Olive Tree
Circus
Vivien Sansour, a former member of the Coalition, is now a
member of the Olive Tree Circus that is
touring the villages surrounding Bethlehem and Ramallah during
the last two weeks of October, 2008.
They
are working with youth in the refugee camps that have been
traumatized by loss and terror and using the circus and theatre
to help them channel their aspirations, fears, and creative
energies. They will be supporting the
Olive Harvest Campaign by bringing beauty and joy back to the
tradition of harvest with song and dance created by the people
themselves. |

Viewing:
Land of the
Settlers
Land of the Settlers is a five part
documentary created by Chaim Yavin, famed Israeli news anchor.
In these two clips Hebron and
Security Checkpoints, we see a glimpse of the powerful
series which aired on Israeli Channel 2 in 2005, causing much
controversy for its criticism of the settlements and Israeli
settlers. |

Recent
CPWJ Activity
On August 5th over 20 supporters of the Coalition met for a
social gathering at the Mediterranean Deli in Chapel Hill,
sharing in dinner and conversation. The evening's purpose
was to recognize the work of Beth Houtrow and Gabrielle Tarrazi
and to welcome the new Administrative Coordinator, Stephen
Barrington. Unfortunately, Stephen and Gabrielle were
unable to attend due to illness. Due to the success of the
event and the absence of the two of the guests of honor, CPWJ
hopes to host another social event soon. |
